It was pouring rain when I got to the forest, but I still stuck to my plan to follow the course of the stony creek Schönebecker Aue. My hope to find more beautiful spots that stand out as a good motif came true. Since it was still raining, I moved on, following the northern edge of the forest. I'll find my way back, I have a good sense of direction, I thought to myself. I turned right into a narrow deer crossing and from a distance I saw this fallen tree. I circled it several times in search of the perfect composition and then I found it: Standing in front of the crown, looking down the trunk towards the root. This time I opted for my 18-55 kit lens, there should be as little sky as possible in the picture in order to draw full attention to the forest and the main subject. The rain created a fantastic atmosphere, which I was able to reinforce later with a slight orton effect on the PC. I was very happy when I finished taking this photo. The rain subsided, the sun came out and I moved on towards the forest path. Once there, I quickly found the ditch that would later flow into the Schönebecker Aue creek, which I remembered from the winter before last. With his help I quickly got back on the forest path where his crossing is bordered by a beautiful palisade made of tree trunks. Firmly convinced to get back to the creek, if I follow the path to the left, it happened: I got lost.

I was not aware that this path was preceded by a t-junction and that it no longer ran to the west but instead to the south.

All I really had to do was follow the ditch and I would be back at the creek. Instead, after a while I found myself back in the center of the forest and realized that the way back to the creek and thus to my car would take a little longer that evening. Although the next day in the home office was exhausting due to my tiredness, it was worth it. This experience of being one with the forest, listening to the raindrops and the sounds of the nature is something very special, a different kind of meditation.

Sunset at Parkamoor Jetty, Coniston Water, Lake District National Park

I'd like to ask those that follow me and anyone else who has the time/inclination to let me know which of the 3 compositions I took they prefer, and why? I'm intrigued to know your views to compare with mine. All 3 shots were taken within about 10-15 mins of each other. All are a focus stacked long exposure images for the water & jetty blended with a normal sky exposure.

I was looking for something to shoot that was not too far away as the sky was looking promising. Had not really looked at the Coniston Water area before and saw in one of the photo books a couple of jetties on the east shore so picked one and went for it. Fantastic light.

Many thanks for any input made. many thanks in advance.

The Closest Thing To Crazy by Katie Melua

There you are; so distantly; hidden behind the blossom where lovers meet;

standing so pensively on castle stones trodden smooth

by the endless march of time and soldier's feet.

There you dream so deeply; scented flowers wafting by, in clouds of white,

falling gently to the ground, like angel feathers float down from the skies at night.

I look to you in vain hope you will see how much your story means to me,

but we are parted by nine hundred years and a thousand deep seated memories;

through layered time and misty veils of weathered treasures,

I seek the truth of all that went before and ancient pleasures.

My romantic heart has travelled through the morning haze,

to find you here and follow quietly the direction of your silent gaze.

I wonder if you will ever look my way or brighten up my darkest day.

I trace your steps across the lawn and make my way; to await the dawn.

I'm surer than I've ever been that lost in time; a change of scene,

our love that once traversed the universe was never just a dream.

In my pocket I carry with me the musty yellowed remnants of what you wrote;

imprinted on my mind and soaked by tears I shed and filled with hope.

Is it possible to transcend the sands of time and love at last will find a home

within a heart where sorrow lived so long that love was left no room …

A photo from quite a while back (wow.. over 2 years ago!; I just looked at the EXIF data, and had no idea it was THAT long ago). I felt the background was too busy, so darkened it all down to black.

Oh no, it looks like the squirrels, woodpeckers, wrens and bluebirds ate all of the peanuts. What now? It's time to buzz the clicking monsters head to let her know we are displeased and expect better service.

Oh what fussy little titmice. Buzz my head, they did! Then it was off to the palm stump to squawk. They took turns doing this until I realized what they wanted. Dunbar the resident mockingbird and boss of the yard doesn't buzz my head when the food is running low. He goes to the living room window and pecks on it until he gets my attention, then he follows me around the feeding stations to make sure I am doing a good job.

The little tufties seemed to simmer down when their demands were met. Perhaps they are becoming a bit spoiled, but they did get their message across. The tufties ate some peanuts and left happy.

There was no escaping this storm by going to Florida The good news is it wasn't as bad as originally predicted. At first they were forecasting up to 20cm of snow and freezing rain. We only got 11cm, followed by mainly rain. Taken at my home.

Back at Thursley Common yesterday,found another small pond with some water remaining .....with some dragons.

These three shots show a sequence of events with this pair of Black Darters,laying eggs in the margins of the pond.

The order Flickr put them up is not the order I uploaded....so...if you follow the numbers....it will make more sense.

This image shows the pair inflight around the water, at this point they are constantly being buzzed and harried by other suitors and other Dragons.

Hello my amazing Flickr friends !!

Today is a blue day at Color my World Daily and this week it is also an orange day at the awesome Looking Close on Friday Group. And if you follow my « adventures » on Flicker, you may know that, last week I mixed up the dates and themes and I was sure orange was a theme for last Friday. I have no other excuses than the fact that this is sooooo « me ». Yes, I’m a very disorganized soul and I’m getting easily distracted. But dont you worry: I’m pretty much sure I have other assets, just ask my husband and you will see ;-)….

So lucky for me, i did several concepts for the blue vs orange theme and this way I can show you another picture for this theme. I hope it will be accepted, even if i took it last week. If it gets removed, dont worry, there is always another week and another theme. The Looking Close on Friday Group is awesome and the themes are always very inspiring :-).

So I see you later my friends !! Have a beautiful day and I hope you like my picture !!

Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and healthy!! And see you soon on Flickr !!

Called the Queen of the Adriatic, Venice has a setting that no other city in the world can rival. It is a network of rii (streams), canali (canals) calli (streets) and campi (squares). The richness and charm of Venice does not derive solely from the presence of significant works of architecture and art (Bellini, Tiziano, Veronese, Tintoretto, Palladio, Sansovino, and many others) but also from the general layout of the city and its way of life. “The rules change in Venice,” I’m told by Janys Hyde, long-time Venice resident and friend. For me, Venice is pure magic. In some ways the city is like a movie set tho' it's not fair to minimize Venice to make believe.

Venice is unique among all great cities of the world in that its streets are full of water. Made up of 118 islands only two to four feet above sea level, crisscrossed by 117 canals, and connected by some 360 bridges, its main avenue is the curving Grand Canal, its buses are the vaporetti. There is no other city in the world of this size and sophistication where the automobile is absent. With no better way to explain, Venice is all about the water. Janys tells me “when furniture is delivered to your home, it’s done by boat or when an ambulance is called it arrives on the water. To truly understand and ‘get in touch with Venice’ one must embrace the water.” Embrace I did, and instantly, feeling a sigh of relief from the usual bells, pollution and whistles of the big city.

Surf Safety Matters - As tempting as the beaches look, surf safety is something we can’t afford to ignore. Some of the latest stats from Royal Surf Lifesaving Australia (2024) really hit home for me.

Some key stats from last year:

* 323 drowning deaths in Australia (with a population of just 27M)

* 30% were 65 years or older

* 86% of coastal drownings were male

* Coastal areas saw the most drownings, followed by inland waterways & swimming pools (half in backyard pools)

* Over half of coastal drownings happened more than 1km away from any surf lifesaving service

These numbers are more than just statistics though - they represent real people with families, friends, and lives. Fellow humans. Each one is a tragedy.

As a 65+ male who spends a lot of time exploring remote coastal areas, quite often alone (& swimming with no SLS services for km's), these numbers hit close to home. A sobering reminder that nature is powerful and can never be underestimated.

The message is simple. Stay aware, stay safe, and respect the water. That could apply to anyone anywhere, just replace "water" with "nature"!

Wishing everyone a safe and mindful week! Thanks for your comments, they are always greatly appreciated! 😊

Stockenten***mallard***Anas platyrhynchos

At the beginning the drake is still alert in the vicinity of the only breeding female, later he joins forces with other drakes to so-called 'moult groups' and no longer cares about the brooding duck and subsequent rearing of ducklings. The "Duck"marriage is ended. After the young from the eggs hatch, they leave the nest already on the first day ("Precocial") and can swim immediately. The mother recognizes and can differentiate their little ones at the "Gepiepse" among others. The ducklings are then protected from her 50-60 days and run.
